Mrs. Lavey is still teaching History! I saw a couple of kids with "Saxons" shirts, and told them I was at Langley 30 years ago. One of the kids said "Do you know Mrs. Lavey?" and I said "she was my history teacher"... He said "she's my teacher now."

All I can say is WOW!

Carolyn Gecan, World Civ teacher, still teaches in Fairfax County and the wild thing is my daughter just graduated from the high school where she teaches. (I think she was about 25 when she taught us!) I also see Mr. Sexton every Christmas as he has a Christmas tree farm and brings his trees to sell in Mclean. He hires Langley students to help out. Once in while I also see Mr. Cook -- they are longtime friends and he also helps out with the tree business.

Just thought I would drop by and say hello. Looking over the profiles I see a lot of names I remember....sometimes I don't remember the faces though.

Sort of amazing...30 years since I graduated! Interesting to see where everyone has moved or what they are doing now. I'll have to visit my sister in Reston and search out some of my old yearbooks. Blast from the past for sure!

My oldest daughter had Lavey for AP World History as well as another history course her senior year. She said the woman was CRAZY!

My mom just cut out a wedding article in the Washington Post to show me because it was about the daughter of Mrs. Martin getting married. Mrs. Martin taught American Civ. Also, a neat coincidence is that Katie Batchelder Radda is a teacher at Herndon High School where my son goes. She has had fun keeping an "eye" on him for me. In fact one of the first days as a freshman she pulled him out of class just to introduce herself. He was a bit worried he was in trouble for something because he didn't know her yet.

This THING keeps going through my head from Mrs Obenchain's class. Can someone PLEASE tell me what it is:

be, am, is, are, was, were, been,...has, have, had,..shall, will, should, would, does, do, did,..must, may, might, can, could.

They feel like dangling participles in my brain! Are they conjunctive adverbs? No...Pronouns?...No....What the heck are they? Anyone have a clue?

I will always remember Mrs. Obenchain's English grammar class!

Those are Helping Verbs (Auxiliary Verbs) which appear with action verbs in a sentence and they help create the verb phrase.

Thank you for that Janet. That little ditty of Mrs. Obenchain's has been in my head for, well, about 30 years!

Hey guys...remember me??? I moved to FLA after my junior year. I missed graduating with you! I've been in touch with Tish and Connie and I am coming to reunion. Can't wait to see you! These posts are so cool! How well I remember Obenchain. I still have her book! Janet, thanks for all the help you gave me in her class! Couldn't have made it w/o you!

Hey Dean,

I remember being in Frau Reeve's class! I felt like I was in The Twilight Zone. Oh, so boring! She had about as much charisma as a dead moth! Eins, Zwei, Drei (dry, now thats an understatement)!

auf Weidersehen......

Oh yes, and who could forget Coach Humphreys and those very scary looks that he would give us as we lined up (by name) for PE. It was because of him that I NEVER bought a pair of "Bike" athletic shorts - you know, too close to a heat source and they would be forever melted to the privates.

Still looking for class of 78 memorabilia. Let me know if you have any of the folloiwng items that we could display at the reunion.

Letterman jacket
Cheerleader uniform
Class of '78 t-shirt
Newspaper clippings
Chorus/Band/Drama programs
Senior group picture
Etc.

Hi Everybody -
Fun to read the messages.
Anybody know what happened to Judy Gibbons? She played field hockey.

For those wondering, I had a great chat with Eddie Sampson earlier this week. He is busy as ever - commuting to The Capitol where he works and running his start up Bike and Canoe/Kayak shop in Shepardstown, WV.

He is an avid fitness nut and is in better shape than all of us combined.

Unfortunately, he has other commitments on the night of the reunion but sends his best to all.

Hi everyone!

I am really in need of pictures for the nostalgia slideshow. If you have a scanner, please send pics to wendy@bluecrabreunions.com (be sure to identify which reunion they're for!). If you don't have a scanner, please mail pics to address below. They will either be returned to you at the reunion or mailed back if you're not planning to attend.

Thanks!

I'm dying to find an Obenchain workbook...Becky are you willing to loan yours out for me to copy/scan? I remember several great, clever tricks from it and often edited friend's papers at Va Tech because my grammer was better than most, thanks to that book! I'd love to teach my kids all her great info. since it truly sticks with you.

I've seen Miss Kestermier (sp?) a few times. She has an antique booth at a shop near me. She and her sister sell Depression Ware glass.

Madeline Fayle (Skinner) lives near me out here in western Loudoun county.

Mrs. Obenchain's book WAS and still is very popular. I gave mine to my college English professor and as far as I know he still uses it to teach his freshmen students how to write perfect sentences, paragraphs and papers.

Becky Gray

I will try to find it and bring it with.

Thanks Becky,

If I'm not there Saturday I'd still like to borrow the book. Would you be willing to mail it to me? I'd mail it back, I promise!

I'll be taking a daughter to UVA to move in the day of the reunion and that might be enough for one day. If there's a Sunday event like a picnic, I'd try to make that, but I haven't heard of it.

Blessings on you and yours, Trish

It was great to see everyone! So much catching up to do. And everyone did have a wonderful time! A big thank you to those that help organize the events.

Let's keep in touch more often.

Was unable to make the reunion, but ironically enough....Our church is doing a thematic series called the "Beattitudes" using Beattles songs and lyrics in the homilies to evoke biblical issues in todays (Ok our generation) music. Well the song of choice this weekend was the Long and Winding road...Which since not being able to make it to the reunion myself, at least made me feel a little closer to you all, and all the memories. Hope you had fun, I was definitely thinking of you! - the sermons can be heard under "My Life" heading on http://www.whiteschapelumc.org/media/displayvideos/23...
Peace!

Not only is Mrs Lavey still teaching History, she is the head of the department now. I was picking up my son (then a Marshall senior) after the SATs at Langley, and I ran into her. She has lost most of her accent, and I didn't think it could possibly be the same person because she looks THE SAME. I swear the woman has not aged one single day! I finally got to tell her after almost 30 years how much that class meant to me - how the standards she set got me through college. I'll never forget the very first day of class when she gave us that test....
